We also provide foundation crack repair and waterproof membrane installation services for residential and commercial foundation walls. And if you suspect your French drain is defective, our technicians can identify the exact location of the problem using a camera inspection.

High-performance drainage system

To prevent pressure from accumulated rainwater from damaging the concrete foundation and causing cracks or water infiltration, drainage systems are installed around buildings. This piping system, equipped with a pump that redirects water toward the storm sewer, is installed at the same level as the foundation footing.

According to the Building Code, all new constructions must be equipped with French drains. These systems generally have a lifespan of approximately 40 years. However, they can remain functional even longer. When necessary, it may only be required to replace a section of pipe damaged by roots or unclog pipes filled with clay, gravel or iron ochre. After completing the repairs, our team installs access chimneys for future camera inspections, helping avoid excavation work if another issue occurs later on.

French drain installation methods

Before beginning excavation work, we contact Info-Excavation to determine the location of underground infrastructure such as electrical wires, sewer pipes and other buried systems. We also determine the drainage path that the water collected by the system will follow.
We excavate a trench along the foundation walls in order to install the pipes. These pipes are installed with a slight slope to help direct water away from the foundation and toward the storm sewer system.
We then cover the pipes with crushed stone before wrapping the drainage system with a geotextile membrane that prevents debris from entering. Finally, we backfill with soil and install sod to complete the project.

Pipe problems?

Our excavation services are available for all types of work, including sewer and water service repair involving water entry lines, sanitary drains and storm drains. If you are experiencing low water pressure or backups, a camera inspection will allow us to identify the problem. We then replace the damaged pipe section using targeted excavation methods. We can also replace water service lines using pipe bursting methods without trench excavation.

Sewer systems

Several issues can affect sewer and watermain pipes over time:

  • Backups: sewer or watermain backups are responsible for many types of interior building damage. In fact, these backups are among the most common causes of home insurance claims.

Chapter III — Plumbing of the Construction Code establishes precise requirements regarding protection against backflow. The recognized solution to prevent these issues is the installation of backwater valves, which are mandatory in many municipalities.

  • Lead pipes: planning to renovate your home? This is the perfect time to inspect your pipes. More than half of homes built before 1970 still have lead service lines and water entries, which can be dangerous to health.

Lead found in drinking water is harmful and can contribute to neurological disorders and other serious health problems. It is therefore essential to replace these pipes without delay rather than waiting for health issues to develop.

  • Cracked pipes: your sewer or watermain pipes, including water service lines, can crack or break due to corrosion, freezing or root intrusion. The damaged section must then be replaced after a camera inspection identifies the exact excavation location.

  • Collapsed pipes: soil movement can alter the drainage slope of sewer and watermain pipes. The system must then be corrected while ensuring that unstable clay soil is removed and replaced if necessary.

Before anything else, we locate your pipes and perform a camera inspection to identify the issue. By accessing the system through the sewer cleanout, we can see in real time whether a pipe is clogged, cracked, invaded by roots or weakened by corrosion.

We also verify water pressure to ensure the water supply system is functioning properly.

When replacement work is necessary, we handle everything: connection to the municipal main line, installation of a backwater valve to prevent backups, replacement of lead pipes, installation of the shutoff valve and connection to the water meter.

Once the work is completed, we restore the property by backfilling, grading and reinstalling the lawn or sod.
